Cosmo Optics has the capability to fabricate a variety of precision optical components including spherical, cylindrical, prisms, plano and more. The materials we work with are varied to be used from UV to the Far IR wavelength bands. Our outer dimensions range from 1.5mm to 1524mm.
A lens is an optical device which transmits and refracts light, converging or diverging a beam of light. A simple lens consists of a single optical element. A doublet or triplet lens is an array of simple lenses (elements) with a common axis; the use of multiple elements allows more optical aberrations to be corrected than is possible with a single element.

Doublets and triplets are a specialty of ours. Our team of opticians are also highly skilled at centering and cementing multiple spherical lenses together. Doublets and even triplets are perfectly aligned to your specifications. We have the capability to hold tight tolerances for demanding applications for telescopes as well as critical R&D projects.
Plano optical components are extremely flat and parallel. These components can be used as windows, wedges or mirrors for a wide variety of applications. Our expert craftsmanship yields incredibly precise plano components. Through our quality measurement system, we can measure and certify flat components up to 12” in diameter at 1/10 wave.
A cylindrical lens is a lens which focuses light which passes through on to a line instead of on to a point, as a spherical lens would. The curved face or faces of a cylindrical lens are sections of a cylinder, and focus the image passing through it onto a line parallel to the intersection of the surface of the lens and a plane tangent to it. The lens compresses the image in the direction perpendicular to this line, and leaves it unaltered in the direction parallel to it (in the tangent plane).
Cosmo Optics manufactures plano-convex or plano-concave at various dimensions and sizes. We have made cylindrical lenses greater than 30” in the past.
A prism is a transparent optical element with flat, polished surfaces that refract light. At least two of the flat surfaces must have an angle between them. The exact angles between the surfaces depend on the application. Some types of optical prism are not in fact in the shape of geometric prisms. Prisms can be made from any material that is transparent to the wavelengths for which they are designed.
Prisms of all geometric shapes are within our capabilities. We manufacture right angle, dover, penta, penta-roof and more. We can chamfer edges or provide polished ends. Typically, we manufacture large prisms over 4” in length. Feel free to contact us about your prism specifications.
Large Optical Elements
Supersize your components! Cosmo Optics specializes in large optical components. We regularly manufacture prisms, lenses and plano components 14” to 26”. We have produced components over 40” in diameter within the past year. Our fabrication methods, equipment and personnel excel at the art of making large optical components.
Today’s imaging systems require high quality optical components designed for performance and longevity. Cosmo Optics has been manufacturing components and assemblies for Aerospace, Naval and Land applications for a very long time. Our expertise in this area is widely known as we make components for mapping, LiDAR, infrared sensing and more.
- Visible Components for 400nm-700nm with AR coatings at either specific narrowband or broadband applications. We coat optics up to 1 Meter.
- LiDAR Components are specifically designed to achieve the highest quality for Lasers. Our unique coating designs enhance the optical glass material to endure the power of a Laser in these applications.
- Infrared Components comprise of specialty materials such as CaF2, ZnSe and Germanium. Cosmo Optics employs special processes in handling and fabricating these materials for optimal performance.
Optical Assemblies include a number of designed multi-elements combined together. Whether it be a doublet, triplet, or a housed multi-element configuration, we can assist in constructing an optical assembly. Optical Assemblies contain an assortment of components as well as kits designed to meet many common optical or laser needs such as mounting, alignment, beam manipulation, or focusing. Optical Assemblies are often less expensive alternatives to using multiple components when designing optical systems.
